Bar Talk
At a bar, a stranger joined the table and was making the acquaintance of everyone there. When she got to me, she asked what I do. I gave her the usual answer about freelancing, SimplyRides.com, etc. Then she said, “What do you love to do?” I thought for a second and then replied, “Fiction. I’m a novelist.” She nodded and asked, “So, why didn’t you say that first?” I didn’t really have an answer but I think it’s because, sadly, being a novelist and a fiction writer doesn’t pay my bills. At least, not yet. I suppose when asked what we do, we give the answer that pays our bills, right?
